Reflections

The “Universe”  is transparent in its presentation, monumental, requiring a large exhibition space. A way to expose 1004 drawings in glass boxes and not hide their content.

The  project with the boxes arises as opposition to the Universe installation , as opposite to its transparency  "Every life is a fire" is a work enclosed, non-transparent, which demands from the viewer a personal and close contact for the work to reveal its chemistry, is a work that operates with the fascination of  open the box and look into the unknown and the unseen.

Is like a wizard hat from which comes out once a rabbit, another a bouquet of roses or a handkerchief, never the same image , never the same rabbit but always the same space,  the same hat . The box is our head, the box is the cave, the box is the attic, the box is the memory and the world.

The boxes are an attempt to spatially represent the intensifications of  internal modes and their relationships. An hermeneutics of the soul  to creat a topography of the mind.

The box is only our minds and in fact a building of a labyrinth or mandala, they become the way out and the jail, the how and the why togethers, is the most metaphysical project tha I have done.

The Chaldean Oracles. All sources and all principles always remain in an incessant circular motion. The number of boxes made is no a determining factor. It's how many you open what counts and how many should be hidden, that is their fortune and power.

Since my installation at Documenta 9 and then at different exposures like at Sao Paulo Bienal,  I have turned to the glass like transparent material and as well as modeler of the space. When I started doing installations using cabinets on metal and glass again was to perform a "transparent" work , the extreem of the use of the cabinets is in the installation  “Universe” .
